Voices for Puerto Rico begins the new year by supporting local organizations, whose purpose is to create and bring art, music and cultural activities as well as offer educational workshops to communities in Puerto Rico. On Thursday, January 4th"Voices for Puerto Rico announced its first event in collaboration with Corporación Piñones Se Integra (COPI)"one of the nonprofit organizations that Voices supported during its first campaign. Held in Tocones, Loiza"the event counted with the participation of Agua, Sol y Sereno"an internationally known group with over 25 years of experience creating and bringing theatre, film, and workshops to communities, schools, and universities. Additionally, Majestad Negra, a folk group that interprets different African rhythms, also performed as well as teaching the children the rhythms and dance of the traditional Bomba.
Recently, Voices for Puerto Rico created an alliance with Atención, Atención foundation, who will produce a series of training workshops and alternative resources for teachers in up to 10 local communities. Titled 'La Hora del Juego'"each workshop course will culminate with a presentation dedicated to the children in each community in order to promote the importance of education after the passage of Hurricane Maria.
Additionally, Voices supported Y No Había Luz, a local organization that contributes to the growth and development of the Puerto Rican culture by linking art to the educational sphere. The organization provides the community with a direct approach to the visual and performing arts through workshops, plays and cultural management projects. Y No Había Luz will present a series of visits, presentations, and workshops for children in hospitals and orphanages promoting mental and emotional health through the arts.
All the partnerships that Voices for Puerto Rico has created include local companies whose mission is the education and healing of children through art and culture.
